Sierra Nevada has opened this Tuesday 19.5 skiable kilometres distributed in 29 slopes after the reconditioning works carried out since last night to alleviate the effects of the mud flow that affected the ski resort this Monday.
Cetursa, the company that manages the resort, initially announced in its daily snow report the opening of 16 kilometres, an area that throughout the morning has been expanded to 19.5 with the addition of other slopes such as El Rio.
This is the opening planned according to the work to condition the slopes after a stream of water, snow and mud that began in the snowdrift Morón, in the southern part of the station, affected the Maribel, Zaragatillo and the final section of El Río slopes yesterday, Monday.
As reported by Cetursa, the El Río slope opened mid-morning after being repaired by the resort workers, who have conducted and drained the water, have collected snow from the intermediate zone of this slope and the Alacranes slope and have repaired the damage with machines.
Also this morning, the machinists began to condition the area of Borreguiles, where the rain episode caused water damming (not mud) in some watercourses and in sections of slopes with little unevenness.
The origin of the flood could be in the breakage of a drainage pipe, which would not have been able to absorb the flow of water, snow and mud generated by the constant rain since last Sunday night.
